【摘要】:Theprocessofoperatinganyengineeredsystem,suchasmonitoringwells,includesactivemaintenancetoprevent,mitigate,orreversedeterioration.Lackoforimpropermaintenancecanleadtowellperformancedeficiencies(physicalproblems)orsamplequalitydegradation(chemicalproblems).Theseproblemsareintrinsictomonitoringwells,whichareoftenleftidleforlongperiodsoftime(aslongasayear),installedinnon-aquifermaterials,andinstalledtoevaluatecontaminationthatcancauselocallyanomaloushydrogeochemicalconditions.Thetypicalsolutionsforthesephysicalandchemicalproblemsthatwouldbeappliedbyownersandoperatorsofwatersupply,dewatering,recharge,andotherwellsmaynotbeappropriateformonitoringwellsbecauseoftheneedtominimizetheirimpactontheconditionsthatmonitoringwellswereinstalledtoevaluate.Thisguidecoversactionsandprocedures,butisnotanencyclopedicguidetowellmaintenance.Wellmaintenanceplanningandexecutionishighlysiteandwellspecific.Thedesignofmaintenanceandrehabilitationprogramsandtheidentificationoftheneedforrehabilitationshouldbebasedonobjectiveobservationandtesting,andbyindividualsknowledgeableandexperiencedinwellmaintenanceandrehabilitation.Usersofthisguideareencouragedtoconsultthereferencesprovided.ForadditionalinformationseeTestMethodsD1889,D4412,D5472,andGuidesD4448,D5409,D5410andD5474.1.1Thisguidecoversanapproachtoselectingandimplementingawellmaintenanceandrehabilitationprogramforground-watermonitoringwells.Itprovidesinformationonsymptomsofproblemsordeficienciesthatindicatetheneedformaintenanceandrehabilitation.Itislimitedtomonitoringwells,thataredesignedandoperatedtoprovideaccessto,representativewatersamplesfrom,andinformationaboutthehydraulicpropertiesofthesaturatedsubsurfacewhileminimizingimpactonthemonitoredzone.Somemethodsdescribedhereinmayapplytoothertypesofwellsalthoughtherangeofmaintenanceandrehabilitationtreatmentmethodssuitableformonitoringwellsismorerestrictedthanforothertypesofwells.Monitoringwellsincludetheirassociatedpumpsandsurfaceequipment.1.2Thisguideisaffectedbygovernmentalregulationsandbysitespecificgeological,hydrogeological,geochemical,climatological,andbiologicalconditions.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
